    Stress Engineering Services Inc. is the premier provider of engineered solutions and professional engineering consulting services across all engineering disciplines, serving clients since 1972. Approximately 80% of current Stress Engineering Services business is repeat or direct referral. We take on some of industry’s most difficult problems, utilizing approximately 360 employees, including 215 engineers. We are looking for a Polymer Scientist / Engineer for our Mason, OH office. The Mason office has a fully-equipped polymer laboratory for testing, an injection molding machine for trials, and many other modeling tools, equipment, and resources available.


    This scientist/engineer will be responsible for performing plastics/polymer engineering duties in tandem with the other members of the polymer group at SES. This position is expected to start as a support role to other engineers and scientists at SES, but would expand over time into direct consulting and testing efforts for external clients.  The ideal candidate would have experience with polymer science and plastics engineering, in order to translate fundamental polymer science concepts into problem-solving for our clients.


    Stress Engineering uses fundamental understanding of materials, testing, and modeling to develop critical solutions for our clients. The ideal candidate is expected to be able to handle a diverse and dynamic set of issues on a daily basis to solve critical and time-sensitive issues.


    This engineer will work in multiple industrial sectors, in particular consumer products, medical devices, and oil and gas. This scientist/engineer will gain experience with a wide range of plastics, elastomers, and thermosets; and from commodity to engineering to high performance grades.  It is expected that the scientist/engineer will be exposed to significant on-the-job training on the path to achieve these duties.


    • PhD and BS in Materials Science and Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, or similar
    • Minimum 2 Years of Industry Experience in Material Science/Engineering or Chemical Engineering
    • Good communication skills, both written and oral
    • Experience in polymer testing
    • Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
    • Responsible team player. Able to work productively in a cross-functional team.
    • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Able to work creatively and efficiently to solve client issues.
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
    • Commitment to safety.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with characterization of polymers and elastomers
    • Proficiency in running and analyzing data from common polymer characterization equipment and the corresponding techniques, such as DSC, TGA, FTIR, TD/MS, GC/MS, compression set, mechanical testing, seal analysis, etc.
    • Experience with Consumer Products, Medical Devices, and/or Oil&Gas sectors.
