    Stress Engineering Services Inc. (SES) is the premier provider of engineered solutions and professional engineering consulting services across all engineering disciplines, serving clients since 1972. Approximately 80% of current Stress Engineering Services business is repeat or direct referral. We take on some of industry’s most difficult problems, utilizing approximately 360 employees, including 215 engineers. We are looking for a Chemist for our Mason, OH office. The Mason office has a fully-equipped polymer laboratory for testing and many other modeling tools, equipment, and resources available.


    This Position will be responsible for conducting and assisting with testing of various liquids, chemicals, and polymers (elastomer, thermoset, and thermoplastic). Standard analytical tools (titration, UV-Vis, FTIR, TGA, DSC, DMA, TMA, Rheology) as well as wet lab methods will be utilized on a daily basis. 


    The primary responsibilities of this position will be to support the polymer science and engineering group at SES while following good laboratory practices, maintaining equipment and calibration, preparing samples, performing measurements, tabulating and summarizing data, and other duties. The ideal candidate will have some background in wet chemistry, safe chemical handling, polymer science fundamentals, and most importantly a careful and detail oriented approach.  Significant on-the-job-training will be provided to fully train the Chemist for activities in the polymer lab.



    • A B.A. or B.S. degree in chemistry or materials science is required
    • A minimum of  2 years of industry experience in chemistry or materials science/engineering laboratories is required
    • Familiarity with standard laboratory practices, concepts and procedures is required
    • Interest in learning more about polymers and expanding your knowledge base is required
    • Responsible team player, able to work productively in a cross functional team and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously is required
    • Strong communication and organizational skills are required
    • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously is required
    • Able to work creatively and efficiently to solve client issues is required
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative is required
    • Commitment to safety is required
    • Experience with standard chemistry methods and safe handling of chemicals is preferred
    • Experience with standard polymer analytical tools (UV-Vis, FTIR, TGA, DSC, DMA, TMA, Rheology) is preferred
    • Able to lift 50 lbs or more is preferred
